Blea Tarn - one of my favourite places in the Lake District (and indeed anywhere in the world!)

Blea Tarn is a photographers dream and one of my favourite places I've ever been too (Big statement I know but it's an amazing place in the Lake District) Stunning views can be found at Blea Tarn over towards the Langdale Pikes in the Lake District - especially in the autumn!

Where is Blea Tarn?

I have circled Blea Tarn here so you can see exactly where it is in Langdale in the Lake District, and there are 2 ways to approach by car (from the north or south of the tarn), both up some narrow and steep sections of road. For those not familiar with Blea Tarn in the Lake District, it is an idyllic little tarn in the Langdale area. Whilst it looks remote (there are hardly any buildings around this whole area) - you can actually drive up to Blea Tarn along narrow, sometimes steep, country lanes and it's about a 30 min drive west from Ambleside. One ether you will find a National trust car park. If you haven't been to Blea Tarn before - hopefully these photos convince you to do so!

Blea Tarn - The perfect spot for some Autumnal views

Blea Tarn is one of my favourite places in the Lake District - and being in the middle of autumn with the sun beaming down - I thought I would pay the place a visit to take some photos, have a little wander around and enjoy the sunshine, peace and quiet. On days such as this - there's not many better places anywhere!

A panoramic shot of the full tarn - what a stunning place! And no-one else about at all.

Looking over towards Side Pike (summit in the right) and the Langdale Pikes in far the distance!

Whilst photos of Blea Tarn at the waters edge are popular, the views above Blea Tarn from Mart Crag are equally, if not more impressive.

It's the perfect spot to just chill and soak in the stunning Lake District views

The autumn colours are pretty special and here we are looking directly towards the Langdale Pikes.

Best Blea Tarn walks including Side Pike

There are 2 excellent walks to do around Blea Tarn as shown below. They both give the best views over Blea Tarn with the Langsdale Pikes in the background and then head up to Side Pike - which is a modest summit but gives stunning 360 degree views. From there you can add a bit onto the walk if you wish or return via the quiet road.

This 2 mile Blea Tarn walk goes in a clock-wise direction from the car park, giving superb views of Blea Tarn and then heading towards Side Pike where you will get some stunning views of the Langdale Pikes.

This 3 mile Blea Tarn walk takes a similar route to the above, but heads to Lingmoor Tarn after Side Pike and then you'll get some excellent elevated views of Be a Tarn on the return.
