Hawthorn Dene is the second largest Dene in County Durham, and is perfect for a shortish 5 mile walk, that is in quiet woodland and won't be too busy.

The paths are well marked along this full route, and most of it is woodland, which makes for a very secluded and peaceful walk.

The full walking route map on this Hawthorn Dene Walk, starting at Nose's Point Car Park near Seaham,  then heading along the coastal path and west into Haythorne's Plantation, through North Dene and into Thompson's Plantation, then towards and down into Hawthorn Dene, then back along the coastal path. In total this walk is 5.3 miles and took us 2 hours.
